You add the offer in the issuer’s app, pay with that card, and the reward usually posts as a statement credit after the purchase settles.
Do card offers need to be activated?: Usually yes. Most issuers require you to add or enroll the offer before you pay. Adding it afterwards does not work, so check before you buy.
Can Rakuten stack with a card-linked offer?: Often. A portal like Rakuten pays for starting your purchase from its site, while a card-linked offer is applied by your issuer. Many people combine them, but each program sets its own terms and exclusions, so treat stacking as likely rather than guaranteed.
